With the nationalisation of the railways in 1948, &#8217;21C112&#8242; was given the British Railways number of 34012.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Bullied-Launceston-name-plate..jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[10564]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-45255\" src=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Bullied-Launceston-name-plate.-300x227.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"367\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Bullied-Launceston-name-plate.-300x227.jpg 300w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Bullied-Launceston-name-plate..jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 367px) 100vw, 367px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The cab was modified in February 1951 and was rebuilt in 1958, when the tender was cut down after it had covered just over 1\/2 million miles. It was withdrawn from service in the December of 1966 having covered a total of 847,523 miles in its life. It was sold to John Cashmore, Newport in South Wales and was scrapped between April and June 1967.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10569 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Westcoutry-Pacific-class-Launceston.jpg\" alt=\"Westcoutry Pacific class Launceston\" width=\"640\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Westcoutry-Pacific-class-Launceston.jpg 640w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Westcoutry-Pacific-class-Launceston-300x182.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2018LAUNCESTON\u2019 WITHDRAWN FROM SERVICE.\u00a0 The End of a Fine Steam Locomotive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Local railway enthusiasts and many other people are sorry to learn that the ex-Southern Railway steam locomotive, 34012, \u201cWestcountry class Pacific 4 &#8211; 6 &#8211; 2 \u201cLaunceston\u201d has been withdrawn from service.<\/p>\n<p>There were 66 of these fine engines in this class, each weighing 86 tons and they were to be seen working express services from London to the Kent coast (<em>where \u201cLaunceston\u201d spent most of its life, until these lines were electrified<\/em>), to Bournemouth and Weymouth, also to Exeter, North Devon, and North Cornwall lines.\u00a0 Latterly they were confined to the Bournemouth line (<em>where our railways correspondent last saw it<\/em>), but this line is to be electrified on July 10.<\/p>\n<p>Named after many Westcountry places, these included in this area: Bude, Wadebridge, Padstow, Tavistock, Okehampton, Bodmin, Dartmoor, Tamar Valley, Yes Tor, Camelford, Boscastle, Callington, Brentor, Holsworthy, Calstock, Bere Alston and Lydford.\u00a0 \u201cCamelford\u201d made a little bit of history on November 29, 1965, by hauling the last normal steam train working between Salisbury and Exeter.\u00a0 It too is now withdrawn.\u00a0 \u201cCallington\u201d hauled the last steam \u201cBournemouth Belle\u201d on December 31, 1966. <em>Cornish &amp; Devon Post, 18th March 1967.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Visits: 180<\/p><!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-10564\" data-postid=\"10564\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-10564 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>.
