His father was Lieutenant Colonel Edward Archer (<em>3rd Foot Guards<\/em>) of <a href=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/index.php\/the-parishes\/lewannick\/trelaske-and-the-archer-family\/\">Trelaske<\/a>, Lewannick (<em>below<\/em>), and his Mother was Charlotte Catherine Archer only child of Captain Charles Harward (<em>3rd Foot Guards<\/em>) and Charlotte Augusta Harward (<em>nee Chambers<\/em>).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1103\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1103\" style=\"width: 625px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1103 \" src=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Trelaske-House-Lewannick.jpg\" alt=\"Trelaske House, Lewannick c.1900.\" width=\"625\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Trelaske-House-Lewannick.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Trelaske-House-Lewannick-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Trelaske-House-Lewannick-768x574.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1103\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Trelaske House, Lewannick c.1900.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Edward was educated first at Winchester then went on to Oriel College, Oxford.<br \/>\nOn the 24th of July 1838, he married Sarah Lydia Radcliffe, eldest daughter of the Revd. Walter Radcliffe of Warleigh Hall, Umberleigh North Devon and Abbey Emma Franco, of Clapham, Surrey. They had six children Alice, Charles, Emily, Addis, Sarah and Dora<br \/>\nHis father died in 1834 and Edward being the eldest son, inherited the estate of Trelaske.<br \/>\nHe became a Justice of the Peace in Launceston as well as being Deputy-Lieutenant for the County of Cornwall, and Lieutenant-Colonel of the <a href=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/index.php\/the-war-years\/launceston-volunteer-corps\/\">Duke of Cornwall\u2019s Volunteers<\/a>. He was also instrumental in bringing the <a href=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/index.php\/the-place\/the-railway-the-coming-of\/the-coming-of-the-railway\/\">railways<\/a> to Launceston, being involved in schemes from the 1840s and also losing money when those schemes failed, but his perseverance paid off when, as chairman, the Launceston and South Devon Railway Company finally succeeded in building a line from Tavistock.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_43599\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43599\" style=\"width: 622px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Trelaske-Manor-1870..jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[1102]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-43599\" src=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Trelaske-Manor-1870.-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Trelaske Manor, Lewannick 1870.\" width=\"622\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Trelaske-Manor-1870.-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Trelaske-Manor-1870.-768x499.jpg 768w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Trelaske-Manor-1870.-1024x665.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Trelaske-Manor-1870..jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 622px) 100vw, 622px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-43599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Trelaske House in 1870.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Edward died on the 16th of June of 1885 and was buried at the family plot of Lewannick Church.
