Originally built as the vicarage for St. Thomas Church around or just after what was then the New Road or King William Road<\/a> (todays St. Thomas Road<\/em>) was cut in 1840, by 1856 Priory House was being used for the purposes of a boarding school operated by Samuel Hicks.<\/p>\n

The house was sold off on April 14th, 1870, being purchased by the Werrington<\/a> Estate.<\/p>\n

\nWise & Short have been favoured with instructions to Sell by Public Auction, on Thursday, the 14th Day of April, 1870, at 12 o\u2019clock for 1 o\u2019clock precisely, at the Priory House, New North Road, St Thomas, Launceston, the whole of this very superior modern Household FURNITURE & EFFECTS, the property of Dr Farwell, who is about to leave the neighbourhood. The house, Garden & Premises to be Let, with possession immediately after the Sale. Apply to Messrs Gurney<\/a>, Cowlard & Cowlard, Launceston.<\/em><\/p>\n

Priory House was then sold by the representatives of Colonel Deakin of Werrington Park (deceased<\/em>), on Tuesday 29th August, 1880. Dr. Wilson, the tenant (rent \u00a345<\/em>) bid \u00a3690 for the property but it was knocked down to Mr. James Treleaven<\/a> for a little more. By 1887 it is again being used as a school with its principal being Mr. G. Arthur.<\/p>\n
