His father was a butcher in a business started in 1817 by Charles&#8217;s grandfather Benjamin, with a shop at an angle to the Southgate (<em>later to be taken over by the Co-op<\/em>).\u00a0 Charles married Emma Weeks on 21 September 21st, 1876, at Launceston and together they had seven children.<\/p>\n<p>He declined to take part in the municipal life of Launceston, but was a key advocate for the construction of the new cattle market on Race Hill in 1900. Emma died in 1911, at the age of 53. One of his son&#8217;s, Edgar was in the North Devon Yeomanry before the <a href=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/index.php\/the-war-years\/launcestons-fallen-from-world-war-one\/\">First World War<\/a>, and was sent to Egypt, where he died in 1915 of a fever. Another son, William Vosper, F.A.I., began his own auctioneer business, which later formed into Vosper and Kivell.
