His father was a printer and newspaper proprietor, publishing the \u2018Launceston Weekly News.\u2019 On leaving school, Sydney joined his fathers business soon becoming a well regarded journalist. On his fathers death in 1899, along with his brother William, he took over the running of the paper and business renaming it as \u2018Brimmell Bros\u2019 Newspaper Publishers, Stationers and Photographers.<br \/>\nIn 1903 he married Kathleen Box at Newton Abbott and four years later a daughter, Barbara Cowling Brimmell was born. They resided at \u2018Homeleigh,\u2019 Launceston. In 1924, the business partnership with his brother William was dissolved and in 1931 the \u2018Launceston Weekly News\u2019 was taken over by the \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/index.php\/the-place\/launceston-businesses\/the-cornish-and-devon-post\/\">Cornish and Devon Post<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4725\" src=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Sydney-Dangar-Brimmell.jpg\" alt=\"sydney-dangar-brimmell\" width=\"600\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Sydney-Dangar-Brimmell.jpg 600w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Sydney-Dangar-Brimmell-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After the paper had been had been absorbed by \u2018The Cornish and Devon,\u2019 Sydney moved to Bodmin \u00a0to take up a position with \u2018The Bodmin Guardian.\u2019 Whilst living at Bodmin, his wife, Kathleen passed away, and Sydney himself began to suffer from ill health. This led to him moving back to Launceston in January 1944 to live at \u2018Treglasta\u2019, Western Road, Launceston with his daughter, now Barbara Freethy. He found employment with \u2018the Cornish and Devon Post.\u2019 This however, was cut short, as Sydney\u2019s continued poor health ultimately led to his death in the February of 1944.
