His father was a farmer and hotelier who ran the White Hart at Holsworthy for several years. In 1934 he was elected to the Cornwall county council and continued to serve as a councillor for seventeen years whilst also being made a county alderman in 1942. He was also the school manager of Launceston council school at Windmill.<br \/>\nNathaniel was a keen sportsman and in his youth had played a lot of football. Snooker was another passion he had and at the time of his death was the vice-president of the Launceston and District snooker league. He was also a well known poultry fancier being a prominent exhibitor and judge at various shows up and down the country.<br \/>\nIn the early 1950\u2019s he sold the business (<em>Charles Shuker having died in 1921<\/em>) and retired to Virginstow but later returned to Launceston to live at the \u2018Laurels\u2019, Dunheved road.<br \/>\nHe died at home in July 1959. The funeral service was held at <a href=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/index.php\/the-place\/churches-and-chapels-of-launceston\/st-mary-magdalene-church\/\">St. Mary Magdalene church<\/a> by the Canon W. G. Steer with his internment at <a href=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/index.php\/the-parishes\/south-petherwin\/\">South Petherwin<\/a> Methodist churchyard.<br \/>\nHe left a total of \u00a336,840 6s. 7d. to Kate his widow.<\/p>\n<p>Visits: 105<\/p><!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-5522\" data-postid=\"5522\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-5522 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>.
