In the 1789\/90 accounts of the mayor it is described as being a new reservoir, so it is highly likely to have been constructed around this time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8781\" src=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1789-90-mayor-accounts.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"958\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1789-90-mayor-accounts.jpg 958w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1789-90-mayor-accounts-300x101.jpg 300w, https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1789-90-mayor-accounts-768x260.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 958px) 100vw, 958px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the 1880\u2019s it was reported to be leaking and the Town Clerk was ordered to have it plastered.\u00a0 He reported back \u201cIt is now plaunch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2003 the reservoir was thoroughly inspected by Falmouth Divers, for the Cornwall County Council.\u00a0 Accurate measurements were taken during the inspection.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Reservoir measures 13.2 metres by 4.7 metres on plan.\u00a0 The construction is rendered arch &#8211; most likely of brick construction &#8211; with 4.7 metre span.\u00a0 A solid floor construction with minor overlying silt is noted\u00a0 Floor to arch crown is typically 2.94 metres.\u00a0 Water level at time of inspection was 1.3 metre above floor level.\u00a0 The arch soffit was found in general good order.\u00a0 The crown is level and true, with no obvious arch deformation on each side.\u00a0 The render is typically good with no debonding or loss recorded.\u00a0 Local fine cracking was evident along the arch with minor leakage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8729\" src=\"http:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/The-top-of-Broad-streets-reservoir..jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"737\" height=\"553\" https:\/\/launcestonthen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/The-top-of-Broad-streets-reservoir.-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 737px) 100vw, 737px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cover of road surfacing is from 150 mm at lower (<em>access<\/em>) end, to approx 300 mm at the top end.\u00a0 The structure of the reservoir is of soft, deep red brick, slowly deteriorating with age.<\/p>\n<figure
