Henry Gardner bought the Launceston drapery business of Mr John Oliver in Broad Street along with Alexander Fraser and in August 1889 and renamed it after himself when the partnership was dissolved. Henry then sold the business in 1907, about 12 months before he died, to Messrs Hicks and Dawe which then became Hicks & Sons.
